2007 Reel Spirituality/LAFSC Film Awards

Honoring works of excellence by emerging filmmakers who attend schools in the Council for Christian Colleges & Universities (CCCU) and by those who create films and videos for ministry contexts.

Winners Receive: $500 (2 from each category)
Submission deadline is September 28, 2007
Entry Fee: $10
Films Screened At: The Directors Guild of America on October 25, 2007

There are two submission categories:

1) If you are an undergraduate student (or 2007 graduate) who attends a school in the Council for Christian Colleges & Universities (www.cccu.org).

2) If you are an undergraduate or graduate student (or 2006 graduate) who attends a non-CCCU Christian college or university or are a young filmmaker making films and videos for ministry contexts.

Requirements for Category #1 Entries

  • Films may be in any genre--Drama, Comedy, Documentary, Animation, etc.--but should integrate a charged spirituality with excellent cinematic storytelling.
  • Under 15 minutes (including credits)
  • In-class or out-of-class work accepted
  • Shot on any format: 35mm, 16mm, 8mm, HD, digital video, etc. But must be submitted as 1 DVD or 1 VHS copy.
  • One professor or school administrator listed as reference

Requirements for Category #2 Entries

  • Films may be in any genre--Drama, Comedy, Documentary, Animation, etc.--but should have been used (or intended to be used) within the context of Christian ministry (i.e. church worship service, parachurch special event, ministry tool/training, etc.),
  • Should display the power of cinematic storytelling within the ministry context.
  • Self-sustained--that is, work should not be supplemental and should require no outside set-up or explanation.
  • Under 15minutes (including credits).
  • Shot on any format: 35mm, 16mm, 8mm, HD, digital video, etc. But must be submitted as 1 DVD or 1 VHS copy.
  • One professor, school administrator, or minister listed as reference.

Los Angeles Film Studies Center (LAFSC) is a one-semester film intensive for students attending schools in the Council for Christian Colleges & Universities (CCCU). Located in one of the primary film and television production centers in L.A. and utilizing state of the art camera and editing equipment, LAFSC is designed to integrate a Christian worldview with an introductory exploration of the work and workings of mainstream Hollywood entertainment.
