Reframing Theology and Film

Reframing Theology and Film: New Focus for an Emerging Discipline, edited
by Reel Spirituality's Robert Johnston has just been published by Baker
Academic. It represents the fruit of a two year consultation sponsored by
the Henry Luce Foundation that brought together
leading scholars in Theology and Film from around the world.

The book challenges readers to move theology and film beyond a literary paradigm to
incorporate more visual and musical appreciation. It also includes the
insights from sociology, philosophy and church history. Contributors
include Craig Detweiler, Barry Taylor, Gaye Ortiz, Sara Anson Vaux, Gordon
Lynch, Terry Lindvall, Clive Marsh, Rebecca Ver Straten-McSparran, Catherine
M. Barsotti, John Lyden, Mitch Avile, Christopher Deacy, Rose Pacatte, FSP,
Gerard Loughlin and Robert K. Johnston.

The books will be featured as the theme of a session of the 2007 American
Academy of Religion in San Diego on Tuesday, November 20th at 9am.
Terry Lindvall will moderate the presentations by Gaye Ortiz, Craig
Detweiler, John Lyden, and Brent Plate. Rob Johnston will conclude the
session with a summary response.
