End of the School Year Thoughts:
There is a large bronze sculpture of Christ being crucified
sitting within eyeshot of my office window.
Since it also is situated in a prominent traffic area on the Fuller
campus, it is interesting to see the many responses of people who pass by the
sculpture, or just pass by. I was struck by
one response today as students were preparing for baccalaureate service. A young man in his graduation cap and gown
walked to the sculpture, removed his cap, and bowed down on the concrete for 30
seconds or so. I imagine there were lots
of thoughts passing through the head and heart of that man as he prepares to
leave here and go on to life in ministry.
I wish I could have heard all the things he was saying to God for those
moments! All the Greek and Hebrew
exams, dealing with big words like Exegesis and Hermeneutics - they're all
past! It did remind me of why we are on
this campus - to assist God in placing His head and heart into that young man and
others like him. May we do that well,
and may God bless all whose lives we touch!
We had a great day installing Todd Johnson as the Brehm
Chair for Worship, Theology, and the Arts on May 22. A part of that event was having the
opportunity to connect with Bill and Dee Brehm, and their daughter, Lisa Ellis.
They are delightful and supportive people.
I know we were all grateful that they could be here for the important
installation event. Bill was also one of
the speakers at the groundbreaking for the new David Allan Hubbard Library
expansion project that will start making some noise on the campus this coming
summer. It will be a BIG project. The building will not only be three stories
tall, but also two stories underground.
A lot of dirt will be moving around here!
One of the reasons that this is a May/June issue is that I
was waiting on a couple of things to report that I knew were developing in the
last few weeks. You'll see those reports
in separate articles, and no doubt sense my excitement about them both - and
you'll sense that there's a LOT of work ahead
for the Fred Bock Institute of Music.
Pray hard!
Blessings to you,
Ed
