The Church and Contemporary Culture

Church and Contemporary Culture BannerProfessor Eddie Gibbs, Director

Mission

The Institute for the Emerging Church explores how the 21st century church will differ from the 20th century church in practice form and purpose. This includes assessing the effect technology is having and will have on worship and community as they pertain to church.

Currently, information on significant trends in the Church is fragmentary and poorly researched. Ministers and scholars need to relate their education and training to the current and anticipated needs of the church in a changing cultural environment.

Research

Fuller professors such as Eddie Gibbs work with doctoral students to research the broad trends within the various church traditions embracing both traditional denominations and emerging movements. The resulting data assists curricula development and advances the mission of the Church in the world.
